Core Member Care involves understanding our identity as God’s child (John 1:12) and recognizing that we are not alone even when we feel isolated (Matt 28:20). It means realizing that our calling and placement are orchestrated by God, not our own doing. And most importantly, it’s about trusting that God’s grace is sufficient for every challenge and task He assigns (2 Cor 12:9). Without confidence in these truths, we risk crumbling when life’s battles inevitably arise.

The Great Commandment, quoted by Jesus in Matt 22: 37-39, says that we are first to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and secondly to love our neighbour as ourselves. Loving our neighbour doesn’t take precedence over loving ourselves – both are equally important. Furthermore, we can only love others well, if we have the right kind of love for ourselves.

Seeking connection with others is part of self-care because we are social beings. Healthy interdependence is when we understand that we need others and others know they can lean on us. Connection is a need we all have; it needs to find healthy expression wherever we find ourselves.
