About the Webinar

Margaret Atwood called the saying 'What you don't know won't hurt you “a dubious maxim: sometimes what you don't know, she says, can hurt you very much.” We would agree, especially when it comes to not even knowing what we don’t know and when that ignorance can really trip us up! In our view, this is very much the case when it comes to crossing cultures. There are at least 3 areas of ‘not knowing’ where we can save ourselves a lot of trouble by simply finding out. That is our objective with this webinar – to lift the veil a little bit and help you to see where some basic knowledge is a very good thing!

The first area we will be looking at is what we tend not to know about our own culture and how that can hinder us when attempting to adjust to a new one. The second is how that new culture is very likely going to impact us – what is involved in cultural adaptation and especially that dreaded word ‘culture shock’! And then we’ll address what you should know about the kinds of support you will need on this adventure. And it’s not all what other people do for us!

Come and join us and let’s explore these topics together!

Christine Paterson

Christine Paterson was brought up in a mission environment – her parents served together for over forty years as missionaries in Africa, where Christine spent her early years. This unique background has helped her to be the support and ministry partner for her husband Ross in the various countries to which the Lord has led them.
